In this eleventh episode, Kate and Peter talk to Keith Ridgway about his novel A Shock, published by Picador.

Keith reads from his chapter ‘The Joke’, we discuss the distinction between a short story collection and a novel, liking your characters too much, London as a stinking beast, and messing with time.

Keith Ridgway is from Dublin. He is the author most recently of A Shock (Picador, New Directions, 2021), which was shortlisted for The Goldsmiths Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. He is also the author of the novels Hawthorn & Child(2012), Animals (2007), The Parts (2003), and The Long Falling (1998), as well as short stories and novellas. His fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, Zoetrope, Stinging Fly, and others. He has been awarded the Prix Femina Étranger in France and The Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. He lives in south London.
